What is Support Work?
The adults we support through residential care want a home just like anyone else's, a place of safety and comfort from which they can base their daily activities.
Our role is to support our residents in achieving this. Our Support Workers work alongside the residents in their own homes, supporting them in their day to day lives, whatever that entails - from making beds to swimming, shopping or driving them to college!
Support Workers get to know the residents well and most Support Workers become a 'Key Worker' to at least one resident so that trust and confidence is built up. A typical job description of a Support Worker is available on request.
Do I need to have experience in this type of work?
No, we will train you. However to work alongside vulnerable adults you will need two references and we will ask you to complete an enhanced criminal record disclosure. Whilst we welcome applicants who do have experience, we have many staff who have come to us with no experience at all. We can provide NVQ training on site in conjunction with South Kent College and you learn in work time at no cost to you! We also are very proud to have an experienced training team based at Woodchurch who train you in the basics required to work in all of our environments.
This is a great way to grow your skills and experience at the same time. We have an excellent reputation for providing high quality support to our clients and we attribute this to our wonderful staff and volunteers!
