Do your bit to help us preserve the Butterflies, and join in with the Big Butterfly Count
Published: 14 July 2014
The Big Butterfly Count is a Nationwide survey run by the charity Butterfly Conservation. We’ll be doing our bit on 27th July, and having some fun too!
Unfortunately Butterfly numbers are declining in the U.K, due to habitat loss and climate change. Butterflies are great indicators of the health of our environment, and by getting involved in surveys like Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count, it can help us to assess the health of our natural environment, and provide ways for us to protect declines in the future.
Join us at the Rare Breeds Centre, and take part in activities to discover and learn about the Butterflies, Bugs and Beasties we have here on the farm. We have all things insect!
Fun activities for all the family include: build a bug, pond dipping, Honey Bees demonstration, face painting and of course, you can take part in the Big Butterfly Count. For the explorers amongst you, have an adventure through the woods, answering the Woodland Quiz - there are sweet rewards!!
Of course, you’ll also be able to have the usual fun at the farm with our farmyard animals, Creepy Crawly World, Tractor rides, adventure courses and outdoor and indoor play areas. Not forgetting our infamous Pig racing!
