HeArt at the Farm!
Published: 16 February 2015
Recently, our Art at the Farm Students were exploring ‘Design through Therapy’ – by creating different textures in ceramic. The result was itself a beautiful textural piece of work, which the students then decided to cut in to shapes and fire in the Kilns.
These beautiful clay centrepieces, then kick-started a collaborative piece of work - to create inspiring card designs to complement the individually created ceramic centrepieces. The students; who designed, created and produced the cards, were thrilled with the result – and so were we. So much so, we have decided to make them available in the Rare Breeds Centre Shop.

Alan Davies, Art at the Farm Studio Manager said “Our Valentines cards were the result of a design through therapy session, which resulted in some stunning, unique pieces of artwork. They were then made in to cards, as part of a collaborative process amongst the Art at the Farm Students, and represent exactly what Art at the Farm is all about. Buying a unique piece of art from us helps our amazing charity.”
Art at the Farm is just one enterprise which is run by our amazing charity, COT. Set in an idyllic Oast house in the beautiful Kent countryside, Art at the Farm is a hub of creativity - attended by adults with learning disability. The artists create textiles, paintings and ceramics for sale, and increasingly the work is being recognised for its quality.
Our studio’s products, all of which are handmade and unique, include cards for every occasion, beautiful handmade cushions, colourful aprons, canvas bags, pottery and bespoke bunting. The studio undertakes community arts products and exhibitions, and supports artists with learning disability in developing their skills. Each artist can develop their own portfolio and many of the artists’ works are shown at local exhibitions and sold through our outlets.
The limited-edition Valentine’s cards are now on-sale at the Rare Breeds Centre Shop. There are just 25 individually crafted, hand-made Valentines cards, with unique ceramic centrepieces at the heart of the card, which can be kept as a keep-sake.
