The legendary route! Day 3
Published: 11 June 2013
The one I most dreaded turned out to be very hard and long but we actually feel better than we did last night!
Happy to leave Fort William after being eaten alive by midges at 6.40am and had a light start 20 miles nut into a headwind making it difficult going. It then got very hard battling the wind (which continued all the way to Glasgow) but climbing for 7 miles in busy traffic. It seemed a trend to climb hard and then have a terrifying descent!
The scenery changed from remote wilderness to stunning glens and then rolling farming country finishing with a massive climb before the 15 miles into north glasgow.
The high was seeing two Hercules aircraft flying up a beautiful glen only a few hundred feet above our heads as we cycled down. The low was a member of our group crashing and being taken away with a broken arm.
James has a sore knee, I have a bad neck and knees and both have other delicate areas! Not helped by the horrendous rutted roads!
Finally the stats before another early start and a mere 105 miles to England into Carlisle.
113.71 miles in 8hrs 41 mins. Ave speed 13.08 and 6366 calories. Lots of good food to eat though!!!
