The Legendary Route – The Finish!
Published: 18 June 2013
Finished and got the medal to prove it!!!!!! Totally exhausted due to 9 days of cycling nearly 1000 miles, sleeping 5 hours a day and probably eating our body weight and still hungry! All we've done for 9 days is sleep (about 5 hours a night), eat (both on the bike and all the time in between) and cycle about 10 hours a day.
However, massively satisfying and feel very proud of our achievement. Quite a few didn't finish the full 9 days, either faliing victim to the 'broomwagon' mopping up those who could not finish or injury / accident or just gave up. The ride was very tough on the body!
We achieved our aim of not only finishing but not getting off to push at any stage and some hills were brutal with many pushing their bikes.
Today was a tough start after the efforts of day 7 and 8 and like other days we had to dig very very deep.
It basically rained all day (with a headwind), very heavy in the morning across some desolate moors. At 30 miles we were both very tired and emotional! However, we cracked on through the county and the hilly but lovely terrain. St Michaels Mount was also very impressive but was followed by a huge climb towards lands End and a terrific reception. Very proud to cross the line together.
